Ground turkey has many benefits. When many people think of burgers, they automatically think of beef. While beef may be popular, it is not as healthy as turkey. Ground turkey, especially white meat, is much leaner than ground beef. It is also a good source of essential nutrients, making it an excellent addition to your healthy diet. When looking at recipe substitutions such as swapping ground beef for turkey, it is important to understand the nutrient profile of the foods you are choosing. Turkey is an excellent source of niacin and selenium, as well as a good source of vitamin B6, phosphorus, and zinc.

Prepare these turkey burger wraps and enjoy the health benefits of ground turkey. These wraps will make a delicious addition to your meal plan.

TURKEY BURGER WRAPS

Ingredients

● One pound lean ground turkey

● ½ tsp salt

● ¼ tsp pepper

● ½ tsp chili powder (if desired)

● ½ tsp cumin

● ½ teaspoon garlic powder

● Two to four tsp coconut oil (or olive oil)

● Stalks of asparagus for cutting up

● ½ of a red onion cut into thin slices

● One head romaine lettuce

● One lime sliced into wedges (for taste)

Directions

  1. Add the ground turkey to a medium bowl and add your salt, pepper, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Mix the turkey mixture together with your hands until it is evenly combined.
  3. Form the mixture into four patties and set aside.
  4. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat with a few teaspoons of coconut oil (or olive oil).
  5. When the pan is hot, add the patties into the pan and cook until the center is no longer pink, and the patties are well-browned on both sides.
  6. Meanwhile, slice the bottom of the romaine lettuce head off, allowing the leaves to peel off more easily.
  7. Peel the leaves off the head of romaine and set aside.
  8. When the burgers are cooked and have cooled for a few minutes, slice them into thick strips so you can place them on the lettuce wraps easily.
  9. Assemble the lettuce wraps by placing two of the romaine leaves on a plate and adding one patty’s worth of slices, a few slices of the asparagus, a few slices of red onion, and a generous squeeze of lime across the top.
